About Domaine Prieure Roch
Essentially an off-shoot of perhaps the world s most-f ted estate Domaine de La Roman e-Conti created in the late 1980s, Prieure Roch has very much plugged their own furrow since their inception. They seek to produce wines that, whilst often experimental in character, are pure reflections of their patchwork of vineyard holdings and embody ideas from far beyond the often-staid world of Burgundy winemaking. These are often confrontational, ground-breaking wines. The vineyards are treated organically and hold only old vines (30-100 years), the domaine harvesting as late as possible in several tries, to maximize fruit and phenolic ripeness. The wines are vinified naturally, with whole bunch fermentation and punching down by foot, followed by no fining, no filtration, and very light use of sulphur. The resulting wines have a special purity and complexity which is hard to encapsulate. Vibrant, fresh aromatics, and very bright acidity are balanced by superbly ripe, sophisticated fruit and spice flavours. Like the wines of other great minimal-interventionist producers, they can be enjoyed young but are also capable of long-term cellaring. Stylistically they offer a unique balance of vigour and wisdom and (unsurprisingly given the caliber of their vineyards) the quality is always outstanding. At the gateway to Pr meaux, the western boundary of Le Clos de Corv es follows the line of a flat stone paved track, unique here on the C te. This track would have been used by the monks of Saint-Vivant-Sous-Vergy around the 10th century and was originally a Roman road.
