About Albino Rocca
The story of this winery started in the mid-1940s when Albino Rocca s father Giacomo selling grapes from family vineyards in the Barbaresco area. The gradual acquisition of vineyards and the production of not only Nebbiolo but also Dolcetto and Barbera have created a strong, sound base for the winery. Also, careful attention and continuous effort to improve and enhance the quality of Albino Rocco's excellent Barbaresco broadened the winery's excellent reputation. From the time he started working in the winery in the 1960s steadily increased the holdings of the winery. In addition to Barbaresco, the winery has vineyards in Neive and San Rocco Seno d Elvio. Angelo carefully managed the vineyards leading to the elimination of the use of herbicides, at the same time improving winemaking and aging techniques. In the late 1980 s he separated the winemaking and aging of cru production starting with Bric Ronchi and Loreto Vineyard to achieve a stylistic change in the production of Albino Rocca Barbaresco. Starting in 2004 the winery increased the use of large twenty hectolitre oak barrels for aging Barbaresco, this was not a choice driven by a nostalgic return to the past, but because it's the best way to increase the true expressive qualities of Nebbiolo's personality and elegant soul. The traditions set in place by Albino and Angelo Rocco are now carried on by Angelo's daughters - Monica, Daniela and Paola. Today the winery is in search of the highest quality wines that express the characteristics, purity and elegance that are so recognizably Barbaresco.
