About Querciabella
Founded in 1974, Querciabella enjoys the acclaim of the world s most discriminating critics and consumers for wines such as Camartina, Bat r, Palafreno, and Querciabella Chianti Classico. In its uncompromising pursuit of quality, sustainability, and authenticity, Querciabella has continually honed its approach to biodynamic viticulture for over a decade. With vineyards located throughout Tuscany s Chianti Classico and Maremma areas, Querciabella exemplifies the mindful preservation of tradition through forward-thinking, albeit completely natural, winemaking. The estate has around 74 hectares (183 acres) of vineyards within the Greve, Panzano, Radda, and Gaiole communes of Chianti Classico. Five wines are produced from these properties: Bat r, a barrel-fermented and -matured blend of Pinot Blanc and Chardonnay; Camartina, a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Sangiovese; the Palafreno Merlot, and Querciabella, a Chianti Classico from 100 percent Sangiovese, which may be labelled as a riserva in some vintages. From the 32-ha (79-acre) Maremma estate comes Mongrana, a blend of Sangiovese, Merlot, and Cabernet Sauvignon. In 2013 the estate also released Turpin, an IGT Toscana blend of Cabernet Franc, Syrah, and Merlot, using equal proportions of grapes from both production areas. Farming has been organic since 1988 and biodynamic since 2000, and Querciabella is the largest owner by area of certified organic vineyards in Italy. No animal-derived products are used in the vineyards or winery, making the wines suitable for vegans.
