About Chateau Chasse Spleen
Chasse Spleen is an exceptional Cru Bourgeois owned by Madame Villars-Foubet since 1976. The castle is located 25 km north-west of Bordeaux, next to the ch teaux Gressier-Grand-Poujeaux and Dutruch-Grand-Poujeaux. The 81 hectares of vines take root in a soil composed of 80% Garonne river gravel on a chalky substratum and 20% clay-limestone. The vines are planted at an exceptional density of 10,000 vine stocks/ha. The vines are about 35 years old, they are cultivated according to the sustainable viticulture method, and the grape varieties are as follows: cabernet sauvignon (65%), merlot (30%), and Petit Verdot (5%). Chateau Chasse Spleen produces 3 Bordeaux red wines: The Grand Vin de Chasse Spleen, Oratoire de Chasse Spleen, and Heritage de Chasse Spleen and a Bordeaux white wine: le Blanc de Chasse Spleen. This wine reaches its optimum between 5 and 18 years old. The second wine Oratoire of Chasse Spleen comes from the selection of plots and tanks not selected for the 1st wine: it is, therefore, a lighter and more accessible wine, to be consumed within 5 to 10 years. Finally, the third wine Heritage of Chasse Spleen produced in the Haut Medoc is quite supple and silky but of medium aging capacity, to be drunk after 3 to 7 years of aging. Chasse Spleen wine is really appreciated since it is a very fine wine from Moulis, often marked between 87 and 92/100. The value for money is good, and that's what will make wine enthusiasts choose the Chasse Spleen over others, especially for the greatest vintages.
