About Domenico Clerico
In 1977 he purchased a small plot of land in the heart of the 'Bussia', which allowed him to produce his first Barolo: 'Briccotto Bussia'. A few years later he managed to obtain a fantastic vineyard in the 'Ginestra' cru from which he started producing his Barolo 'Ciabot Mentin' and shortly afterwards another vineyard in this splendid cru from where he obtains his Barolo 'Pajana.' In 1995 he chose a plot of land in another cru called 'Mosconi' and so the life of his Barolo 'Percristina' began. They were implanted in the clay soil in 1955 even if they were acquired by Clerico only in 1995. In addition to his devotion to single cru vineyards, Clerico championed what is considered a modern style of Barolo, using new burgundy barrels and later barriques to age the wines. He always had an eye toward the future, often experimenting with new technology and longer macerations. Despite his reputation as a modernist, the primary goal was always to maintain the purity of the fruit and expression of the land, which the Domenico Clerico wines achieve beautifully. The refinement process continues for at least 5 years in the bottle before release. With much effort and goodwill, they have managed to build up a company that today consists of about 21 hectares for a total of 110,000 bottles per year. A maniacal cure for a unique, rare and precious wine, with its ever-changing balance in what will be its potentially long life.
