About Domaine Chandon de Briailles
Chandon de Briailles was built in 1690 by the architects who created the palace and gardens of Versailles. In 1834, this beautiful building, along with its spectacular gardens and vineyards, became part of the Nicolay family heritage when it was acquired by Countess Chandon de Briailles. One of her daughters, Claude, caught her mother's passion for wine and studied viticulture and oenology in Dijon. Its 13.7 hectares of pristine vineyards are located just 4 km from Beaune. Biodynamic was implemented into their practices, to the management of their vineyards in organic, which resulted in receiving the Demeter certification with the 2011 vintage. They also own the 1st Cru le des Vergelesses (with which they make whites and reds) and Les Vergelesses in the village of Pernand-Vergelesses, as well as the 1st Cru Les Valozi res in Aloxe-Corton and Les Caillerets in Volnay. Both pinot noir and chardonnay are vinified according to what Claude and Fran ois call the neoclassical Burgundian style : the musts with a proportion of whole bunches in the case of reds ferment at a controlled temperature with native yeasts, without the addition of products synthetic oenological. The barrels are made of oak wood chosen by the family and dried in the premise of the Domaine. They do not filter or clarify before bottling. Their wines are clean, deep, and creamy. Domaine Chandon de Briailles produces around 50,000 bottles a year from an extensive range in which pinot noir predominates over chardonnay.
