About Gilles Burguet
Here is a very nice little artisanal estate where we work according to the best of Burgundian empiricism. The lesser-known brother of the famous Alain Burguet but just as jovial and kind welcomes the passing customer without fuss, and there is wine for sale. We appreciated the naturalness and the straightforwardness of expression of the property's Gevrey-Chambertins, in particular, that produced from the old vines of Corv es and the very small production of a Lavaux Saint-Jacques, with an intensity of color and fragrance. This is one of the least expensive wines from Gevrey-Chambertin. It has been becoming more affordable over the past year. This wine is hard to find. The estate still has 1999s and even older wines. Grape variety and vineyard: Pinot Noir. The number of bottles per year: 15000. Planted area: 3 hectares. Harvesting method: Manual. The average age of the vines: 40. Pinot Noir is the dominant red wine grape of Burgundy, now adopted (and extensively studied) in wine regions all over the world. The variety's elusive charm has carried it to all manner of vineyards. Grapes are hand-harvested and 100% de-stemmed. Because the whole-cluster fermentation was always low (10-15% depending on the year), he decided to completely de-stem in the late 1990s, preferring a slow, gentle de-stemming and whole-berry fermentation with no crushing. The wines are transferred to traditional oak barrels after a slow and gentle pressing. Racking occurs once at bottling. No fining or filtration.
