About Domaine de Montille
The Domaine de Montille is known as one of the best domains in Burgundy. While the origin of the Domain dates back to approximately 1730, the modern history of the domain began in 1947, when Hubert de Montille started making the domain's wines at the age of 17, due to the death of his father. Four years later he took full responsibility for the domain. As the estate consisted of only 2.5 hectares at the time. Over the years and through careful acquisitions, the estate acquired more and more top-quality vineyards throughout the C te d'Or. The biggest change Etienne applied to the vineyards was the decision in 1995 to go organic, and in 2005 to switch completely to biodynamic. While Hubert's wines were famous for their ability to age gracefully but show austerity when young, Etienne's approach is to make wines more accessible through a philosophy of better vineyard management, reduced yields, elimination of fertilizers. chemicals, careful attention to phenolic maturity and harvest date, and fine-tuned extraction and winemaking techniques. The wines remain in the barrel for 14-18 months and are normally bottled without clarifying or filtering. In 2012, Etienne acquired the Chateau de Puligny-Montrachet, adding another 14 ha of first-class vineyards. Today, Domaine de Montille consists of 37 ha of vineyards, with 23 ha respectively under the Domaine de Montille labels and 14 under the Chateau de Puligny-Montrachet labels. Etienne and Alix refined this great historical domain and established it as one of the best estates in Burgundy.
