About Meo Camuzet Frere et Soeurs
Domaine M o Camuzet is today one of the most celebrated wineries on the C te d Or. Until 1988, the winery's vineyards were leased to other winemakers, including the legendary vigneron Henri Jayer. In 1988 Jean-Nicolas M o, grandson of founder Etienne Camuzet took over the reins of the winery and decided to reclaim his land and re-bottle the wine from the family's vineyards. The family was always closely linked to politics, spending long periods in Paris which led to the rental of the vineyards. Jean-Nicolas spent 3 years working alongside Henri Jayer who subsequently continued to advise the winery for some time. Domaine M o-Camuzet today has a spectacular collection of vineyards including 2.5 hectares of Grand Cru and 8 hectares of the best Premier Crus and Grand Crus in the Nuits-Saint Georges area. Among them, they have an important section of Richebourg and the mythical Premier Cru Aus Parantoux that Jayer immortalized. All the vines are worked organically and have significant proportions of old vineyards. Today Jean-Nicolas together with viticulturist Christian Fauroix produces strong, intense wines with significant doses of new wood that no Burgundian lover should miss. The grapes are selected in the winery, are destemmed and cold macerated. For aging, all the wines remain in barrels for around 12-15 months. All Grand Crus go through 100% new barrels, while Premier Crus between 50% -70% depending on the plot and around 50% for Villages. Jean Nicolas attaches great importance to the proportion of new wood in aging and it can vary from one vintage.
