About Frapin

Frapin is a historic family-owned estate located in the heart of the Grande Champagne region, the premier cru of Cognac. The Frapin family has been established in the region since 1270, originally as winegrowers before evolving into distillers. Spanning 240 hectares of vineyards, Frapin’s estate is situated exclusively within Grande Champagne, renowned for its chalky soils and ideal microclimate, which contribute to the exceptional quality of its eaux-de-vie.

The family’s deep-rooted connection to the land is reflected in their meticulous approach to viticulture and distillation. All grapes used in Frapin’s Cognacs are harvested from their own vineyards, primarily Ugni Blanc, ensuring complete control over quality from vine to bottle. The estate practices sustainable agriculture, respecting both tradition and the environment. Grapes are harvested at optimal ripeness and pressed directly on the estate, preserving the delicate aromas that characterize Frapin Cognacs.

Distillation at Frapin is carried out on the lees in traditional copper pot stills, a process that imparts richness and complexity to the spirits. The distillation process is carefully managed by the cellar master, who draws on centuries of family expertise to create eaux-de-vie with finesse and depth. After distillation, the Cognac is aged in Limousin oak barrels in Frapin’s historic cellars, some of which are centuries old. The unique architecture of these cellars, with their varying humidity levels, allows for nuanced maturation, resulting in Cognacs that balance power and elegance.

Frapin’s portfolio ranges from youthful, vibrant expressions to rare, long-aged reserves. Each bottling reflects the singular terroir of Grande Champagne, distinguished by floral, fruity, and spicy notes, with a characteristic roundness and length on the palate. The house is celebrated for its mastery in blending, with the cellar master selecting eaux-de-vie of different ages to achieve harmonious and complex profiles. Among their most iconic releases are the Château Fontpinot XO, a single-estate Cognac, and the prestigious Cuvée 1888, which showcases the house’s heritage and artistry.

Innovation and tradition coexist at Frapin. While the house honors time-honored methods passed down through generations, it also embraces modern techniques to enhance quality and sustainability. The estate has received numerous accolades for its Cognacs, recognized for their authenticity, purity, and expressive character. Frapin remains family-owned and operated, with Geneviève Frapin leading the estate and overseeing its continued evolution.

Visitors to Frapin can explore the historic Château Fontpinot, surrounded by vineyards and steeped in centuries of history. The estate offers guided tours and tastings, providing insights into the craftsmanship and passion behind each bottle. Frapin’s commitment to excellence, respect for terroir, and dedication to family tradition have established it as a benchmark in the world of Cognac, appealing to connoisseurs and newcomers alike who seek spirits of genuine pedigree and distinction.
