Vina Aquitania winery
Viña Aquitania is a boutique winery located in the Maipo Valley, Chile, at the foot of the Andes Mountains, just 35 minutes from Santiago. Founded in 1990 by four friends—Chilean winemaker Felipe de Solminihac and French vintners Paul Pontallier, Bruno Prats, and Ghislain de Montgolfier—their vision was to create high-quality wines that reflect both French winemaking tradition and the unique Chilean terroir. The estate covers 18 hectares, with vineyards planted at an altitude of 700 meters above sea level, benefitting from a Mediterranean climate with cool Andean breezes and well-drained alluvial soils. These conditions are ideal for cultivating classic Bordeaux grape varieties, particularly Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Syrah.
Viña Aquitania’s philosophy centers on meticulous vineyard management and minimal intervention in the cellar, allowing the character of the fruit and the terroir to shine. Grapes are hand-harvested and sorted to ensure only the best fruit is used. The winery employs sustainable practices, respecting the environment and preserving the natural balance of the vineyard ecosystem. Attention to detail continues in the winemaking process, where traditional techniques blend with modern technology to produce wines of elegance, balance, and complexity.
The winery’s portfolio includes several acclaimed labels. “Aquitania” is the flagship range, showcasing the best expression of Maipo Valley’s Cabernet Sauvignon, as well as Syrah and Carmenère. “Sol de Sol,” produced from a separate vineyard in the cool-climate Malleco Valley in southern Chile, features Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, reflecting the founders’ commitment to exploring diverse terroirs. “Lazuli” is a premium Cabernet Sauvignon, crafted only in exceptional vintages, representing the pinnacle of the estate’s red winemaking. Other offerings include rosé and limited-edition varietals, all marked by freshness, purity, and a sense of place.
Viña Aquitania’s wines have received international recognition and awards, reflecting the expertise of its founders and the quality of its vineyards. The estate is open to visitors by appointment, offering guided tours that include walks through the vineyards, a look at the winemaking facilities, and tastings of their signature wines. The winery’s setting provides a unique experience, with panoramic views of the Andes and Santiago, highlighting the close connection between the land and the wine.
Committed to excellence, Viña Aquitania continues to innovate while honoring its Franco-Chilean heritage. The winery remains family-owned and operated, with the next generation actively involved in all aspects of the business. Their ongoing mission is to produce wines that express the identity of their vineyards, respect the environment, and delight wine lovers around the world.
