Verget winery

Verget is a Burgundy-based wine producer founded in 1990 by Jean-Marie Guffens. Located in Sologny, in the Mâconnais region of southern Burgundy, Verget was created with the philosophy that the best wines are made from the best grapes. The company focuses on sourcing high-quality fruit from selected terroirs, working closely with growers to ensure the grapes reflect their origin. Verget does not own vineyards but instead selects parcels from various growers, prioritizing old vines, organic or sustainable viticulture, and low yields to ensure concentration and purity in the final wines.

The winemaking philosophy at Verget centers on minimal intervention. Grapes are hand-harvested and sorted for optimal ripeness and quality. Fermentation occurs using indigenous yeasts, and the wines are aged in a combination of stainless steel tanks and French oak barrels, depending on the cuvée and the vintage. The goal is to express the nuances of each terroir, allowing the natural characteristics of the grape and the land to shine through. Sulfite use is kept to a minimum, and the wines are bottled with little or no filtration to preserve their integrity and complexity.

Verget produces a broad range of white wines, primarily from Chardonnay, reflecting the diverse terroirs of Burgundy. The portfolio includes wines from prestigious appellations such as Chablis, Pouilly-Fuissé, Saint-Véran, Mâcon-Villages, and Meursault, as well as lesser-known but distinctive sites. Each wine is crafted to showcase the unique personality of its origin, whether it is the minerality of Chablis, the richness of Pouilly-Fuissé, or the freshness of Mâcon-Villages. Verget also produces limited quantities of red wines from Pinot Noir, sourced from select vineyards in Burgundy.
