Podere Forte winery

Podere Forte is a distinguished wine estate located in the heart of Tuscany, within the Val d’Orcia, a UNESCO World Heritage site celebrated for its rolling hills and rich agricultural heritage. Founded in 1997 by Pasquale Forte, an entrepreneur with a passion for excellence and sustainability, the estate has become a benchmark for biodynamic viticulture and holistic farming in Italy. Podere Forte spans over 500 hectares, of which approximately 26 are dedicated to vineyards, while the remainder is a mosaic of olive groves, forests, pastures, and gardens. This integrated approach reflects the estate’s commitment to biodiversity and the harmonious coexistence of agriculture and nature.

The vineyards at Podere Forte are situated at altitudes ranging from 320 to 480 meters above sea level, benefiting from optimal sun exposure and a unique microclimate. The soils are composed of clay, limestone, and marl, providing ideal conditions for cultivating Sangiovese, Merlot, and Petit Verdot, among other varieties. The estate practices biodynamic agriculture, following the principles of Rudolf Steiner, which emphasize the use of natural preparations, lunar cycles, and the integration of animals and plants to maintain soil vitality and vine health. This philosophy extends to every aspect of the estate, from the compost produced on-site to the use of draught animals for plowing.

Podere Forte’s winemaking philosophy centers on expressing the terroir and achieving the highest quality through meticulous attention to detail. Grapes are harvested by hand in small crates, with rigorous selection both in the vineyard and at the sorting table. The gravity-flow winery, designed to minimize intervention and preserve the integrity of the fruit, features state-of-the-art technology alongside traditional methods. Fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled oak vats, and aging occurs in a combination of French oak barrels and large casks, allowing the wines to develop complexity and elegance while maintaining freshness and balance.

The estate produces a focused portfolio of wines, including the flagship Guardiavigna, a blend of Bordeaux varieties that showcases structure and finesse; Petrucci, a pure expression of Sangiovese from select vineyard parcels; and Petruccino, a vibrant and approachable Sangiovese. Each wine reflects the character of its origin, marked by purity, depth, and a distinctive sense of place. In addition to wine, Podere Forte produces high-quality extra virgin olive oil, honey, and other artisanal products, further embodying the estate’s holistic ethos.

Podere Forte is dedicated to sustainability, environmental stewardship, and the preservation of local traditions. The estate is certified organic and biodynamic, with a focus on renewable energy, water conservation, and the reduction of chemical inputs. Research, innovation, and respect for the land are at the core of its philosophy, resulting in wines that are both authentic and expressive. Through its commitment to excellence and sustainability, Podere Forte has established itself as a model of modern Tuscan viticulture, attracting wine lovers and professionals from around the world to experience its unique blend of tradition, innovation, and respect for nature.
