Christian Gosset winery

Champagne Gosset, established in 1584 in Aÿ, is the oldest wine house in Champagne. For over four centuries, it has remained dedicated to the creation of exceptional champagnes, prioritizing respect for tradition and terroir. Gosset is celebrated for its pursuit of excellence, blending expertise passed down through generations with a commitment to authenticity and craftsmanship. The house sources grapes primarily from Grand Cru and Premier Cru vineyards, focusing on the three classic Champagne varietals: Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and Pinot Meunier. The emphasis is on highlighting the natural qualities of the fruit and the unique characteristics of the region’s chalky soils.

Gosset’s winemaking philosophy is rooted in minimal intervention. The house avoids malolactic fermentation in its wines, preserving the natural freshness, liveliness, and aromatic purity of the grapes. This approach ensures the champagnes retain their distinctive style—structured, expressive, and marked by a vibrant acidity that supports long aging potential. Each blend is crafted to achieve balance and complexity, with extended maturation on lees, often far exceeding the legal requirements for Champagne. This patience allows the wines to develop depth, elegance, and subtlety.

The range includes iconic cuvées such as the Gosset Grand Réserve, celebrated for its richness and harmony; the Grand Blanc de Blancs, showcasing the finesse of Chardonnay; and the Grand Rosé, a delicate and expressive wine made with a high proportion of Chardonnay and a touch of red wine for color and fruitiness. The house also produces vintage champagnes in exceptional years, each reflecting the unique character of the harvest and the artistry of the cellar master.

Gosset remains fiercely independent, preserving its family heritage and artisanal spirit. The house is housed in a historic 19th-century building in Épernay, where visitors can experience its heritage, explore its cellars, and discover the meticulous process behind each bottle. Sustainability is an ongoing priority, with efforts to reduce environmental impact, support biodiversity in the vineyards, and ensure responsible practices at every stage of production.

Throughout its history, Gosset has earned acclaim among connoisseurs and professionals for the consistency and character of its champagnes. The house’s wines are recognized for their gastronomic versatility, pairing beautifully with a wide range of dishes, from seafood and poultry to refined cheeses and desserts. Gosset’s commitment to quality, respect for tradition, and continuous pursuit of excellence make it a benchmark among Champagne producers, offering wines that are both timeless and contemporary.
