Castell`in Villa winery

Castell’in Villa is an esteemed wine estate located in the heart of Chianti Classico, Tuscany, near the medieval village of Castelnuovo Berardenga. The estate covers 300 hectares, of which 54 hectares are dedicated to vineyards and 32 to olive groves, with the remainder comprising woodland and fields. The property dates back to the 13th century and is centered around a historic village, complete with a castle, church, and ancient stone buildings, all surrounded by the scenic Tuscan landscape.

Since 1968, Castell’in Villa has been owned and managed by Princess Coralia Pignatelli della Leonessa, who has played a pivotal role in restoring the estate’s ancient buildings and revitalizing its agricultural activities. Under her guidance, the estate has focused on producing wines that reflect the unique terroir and traditions of Chianti Classico, emphasizing quality and authenticity. The vineyards are cultivated with respect for the environment, using sustainable methods that preserve the land’s natural balance.

The estate specializes in the production of Chianti Classico DOCG wines, with Sangiovese as the principal grape variety. Castell’in Villa’s approach to winemaking is rooted in tradition, with minimal intervention in both the vineyard and the cellar. Grapes are hand-harvested and fermented using indigenous yeasts. The wines are aged in large Slavonian oak casks, allowing them to develop complexity and elegance while maintaining a pure expression of fruit and terroir. The estate is known for producing age-worthy Chianti Classico Riserva, as well as a limited selection of single-variety wines, including a 100% Sangiovese and a Cabernet Sauvignon.

In addition to wine, Castell’in Villa produces extra virgin olive oil from its own groves, which are cultivated with the same care and attention as the vineyards. The olive oil is cold-pressed and unfiltered, resulting in a product that is intensely aromatic and flavorful, reflecting the character of the Tuscan countryside.

The estate offers hospitality in its beautifully restored medieval village, providing guests with the opportunity to experience the charm of rural Tuscany. Accommodation is available in elegant rooms and apartments, each furnished with antique pieces and modern comforts. Guests can enjoy the estate’s gardens, swimming pool, and panoramic views, as well as guided tours of the vineyards, cellars, and historic buildings. Wine tastings and traditional Tuscan cuisine are also available, showcasing the estate’s own wines and olive oil alongside local ingredients.

Castell’in Villa’s commitment to quality, tradition, and sustainability has earned it a respected place among the producers of Chianti Classico. The estate’s wines are characterized by their depth, structure, and ability to age gracefully, offering a true reflection of their origin. Through careful stewardship of the land and dedication to authentic winemaking, Castell’in Villa continues to preserve and celebrate the heritage of Tuscany.
