Albino Rocca winery

Albino Rocca is a family-owned winery located in Barbaresco, in the heart of the Langhe region of Piedmont, Italy. The estate has deep roots in the area, with a winemaking tradition that spans four generations. Founded by Albino Rocca, the winery is now managed by his grandchildren—Angelo, Daniela, Monica, and Paola—who continue to honor the family legacy while embracing modern techniques and sustainability.

The estate covers 18 hectares of vineyards, primarily situated in the Barbaresco DOCG area, with additional plots in Neive, Magliano Alfieri, and San Rocco Seno d’Elvio. The vineyards are located on some of the region's most prestigious crus, including Ronchi, Ovello, Montersino, and Cottà. The estate’s focus is on Nebbiolo, the grape behind Barbaresco, but they also cultivate Barbera, Dolcetto, and Chardonnay, producing a diverse range of wines.

Albino Rocca’s philosophy centers on respect for the land and the unique characteristics of each vineyard. The family adopts sustainable viticulture practices, avoiding herbicides and minimizing interventions to preserve biodiversity and the natural balance of their soils. All vineyard work is done by hand, ensuring careful attention to each vine and optimal grape quality.

The winemaking approach at Albino Rocca blends tradition and innovation. The cellar team combines classic methods, such as aging in large oak casks, with modern techniques that enhance the expression of terroir and grape variety. The goal is to craft wines that are elegant, harmonious, and true to their origins. Fermentation is carried out using indigenous yeasts, and the wines are aged in a mix of large Austrian and French oak barrels, depending on the wine and vintage.

Albino Rocca’s portfolio includes several Barbaresco wines, each offering a distinct interpretation of the region’s terroir. The flagship is the Barbaresco Ronchi, sourced from the historic Ronchi cru, known for its complexity and aging potential. Other notable Barbaresco wines include Ovello Vigna Loreto, Cottà, and Montersino, each reflecting the nuances of their respective vineyards. The estate also produces Langhe Nebbiolo, Barbera d’Alba, Dolcetto d’Alba, and a white wine called Langhe Chardonnay Da Bertü.

Commitment to quality extends beyond the vineyard and cellar. The Rocca family is dedicated to sharing their passion for wine through hospitality. Visitors are welcomed at the estate for tastings and tours, offering an immersive experience in the world of Barbaresco and the family’s winemaking philosophy. The estate’s modern tasting room overlooks the vineyards, providing a scenic setting for discovering their wines.

Albino Rocca’s wines are distributed internationally and have gained recognition for their finesse, balance, and authentic expression of Barbaresco. The family’s dedication to tradition, sustainability, and innovation ensures that each bottle reflects both the heritage of the Langhe and the ongoing evolution of the estate. Through their work, Albino Rocca continues to contribute to the prestige of Barbaresco and the broader Piedmont wine region.
