About Paul Launois
Paul Launois is a boutique Champagne producer based in the prestigious village of Le Mesnil-sur-Oger in the Côte des Blancs, a region celebrated for its exceptional Chardonnay. The estate is managed by Julien Launois and his wife, Sarah, who represent the latest generation in a family with deep roots in viticulture. While the Launois family has cultivated vines since the 19th century, the Paul Launois label was established in 2015, marking a new chapter of creativity and innovation in their winemaking journey.
The vineyards of Paul Launois extend over approximately 6.5 hectares, predominantly planted with Chardonnay vines. The parcels are located in some of the most coveted Grand Cru terroirs of Le Mesnil-sur-Oger, where the chalky soils and cool climate contribute to the purity, finesse, and minerality that define the house’s Champagnes. The estate is committed to sustainable viticulture, employing environmentally friendly practices to preserve the health of the soils and vines for future generations.
Paul Launois has gained distinction for its unique approach to vinification and blending. A signature feature of the house is its “Monochrome” collection, which showcases single-vintage, single-parcel, and single-barrel Champagnes. These limited-edition cuvées are crafted to express the individuality of each plot and the nuances of each harvest. The estate also offers a rare experience called “Les Belles Voyes,” where wine enthusiasts can select a single barrel from the cellar to create a personalized Champagne, blending tradition with a bespoke touch.
The winemaking philosophy at Paul Launois is centered on minimal intervention and respect for terroir. Grapes are harvested by hand at optimal ripeness, and vinification takes place in a combination of stainless steel tanks and oak barrels to balance freshness and complexity. The use of indigenous yeasts and careful aging on lees further enhance the depth and character of the wines. Dosage is kept low, allowing the natural expression of the fruit and terroir to shine through in each bottle.
Paul Launois Champagnes are characterized by their elegance, precision, and vivid minerality. The wines display aromas of white flowers, citrus, and stone fruits, complemented by a creamy texture and a persistent, saline finish. Each cuvée reflects the meticulous attention to detail and passion that Julien and Sarah bring to their craft, honoring the legacy of their family while embracing modernity and experimentation.
Though a relatively young label, Paul Launois has quickly attracted the attention of sommeliers, collectors, and Champagne lovers worldwide. The estate’s limited production ensures exclusivity, with bottles highly sought after for their authenticity and sense of place. Paul Launois continues to push boundaries in the region, offering a fresh perspective on Grand Cru Champagne and reinforcing Le Mesnil-sur-Oger’s reputation as a source of some of the world’s finest sparkling wines.
