About Tenuta San Guido
Tenuta San Guido takes its name from San Guido della Gherardesca who lived in the 13th century. It is located on the Etruscan coast between Livorno and Grosseto, in the Maremma made famous by the verses of Giosu Carducci and extends for 13 kilometers from the sea up behind the hills. It contains three excellences: Sassicaia , the Dormello Olgiata breed in thoroughbred horses and the Padule di Bolgheri Wildlife Refuge , the first in Italy. They are the cardinal points of the Estate and also geographically mark the territory: the Marshes towards the sea, the training center on the plain and the vineyards that reach up to almost 400 meters among the scrub on the hills. An ideal situation because with 2,500 hectares available it was possible to find the 75 hectares best suited for Sassicaia. So exceptional that they deserve a DOC of their own (DOC Bolgheri Sassicaia) which is the only one in Italy to be included entirely in a property.
