About Tellier

Champagne Tellier is a dynamic wine producer based in the Vallée de la Marne, at the heart of the Champagne region in France. Established in 2016 by Benoit Tellier and his partner, this young house has quickly garnered attention for its commitment to expressing the unique terroir of its vineyards. The estate is situated in Moussy, a village just south of Épernay, and sources grapes from a mosaic of small plots spread across the premier cru villages of Chavot, Pierry, Moussy, and the grand cru village of Cramant. The vineyards, totaling just over five hectares, are planted predominantly to Chardonnay, with Pinot Meunier and Pinot Noir rounding out the portfolio. The soils are a mix of clay, chalk, and limestone, contributing complexity and finesse to the resulting wines.

Tellier’s philosophy centers on sustainable viticulture and minimal intervention in both the vineyard and the cellar. The team works with great care to preserve biodiversity, encouraging deep-rooted vines and healthy soils. Herbicides and pesticides are avoided, and the vineyards are managed according to principles that respect the environment and the rhythms of nature. Harvesting is done by hand, ensuring that only the best grapes are selected for vinification.

In the cellar, Tellier employs a thoughtful approach to winemaking, blending tradition with innovation. Fermentation takes place in a combination of stainless steel tanks and oak barrels, depending on the cuvée and the desired style. The use of oak is measured, intended to enhance texture and complexity without overwhelming the purity of the fruit. Malolactic fermentation is not systematic, and each wine is treated individually to best express its character. The wines are aged on the lees for extended periods, contributing depth and a fine mousse to the finished champagnes.

The Tellier range includes several cuvées, each crafted to showcase a specific aspect of their terroir. The flagship Brut Réserve is a blend of all three Champagne grape varieties, offering a harmonious balance of freshness, fruit, and structure. The Blanc de Blancs highlights the elegance and minerality of Chardonnay from chalky soils, while single-village and single-parcel bottlings allow for a deeper exploration of site-specific nuances. Dosage is kept low across the range, resulting in wines that are vibrant, precise, and gastronomic.

Although Tellier is a relatively new name in Champagne, the house has attracted praise for its focus on quality and authenticity. The wines are characterized by their clarity, energy, and expressive aromatics, reflecting both the skill of the winemaking team and the diversity of the terroirs they farm. With a dedication to sustainability, meticulous attention to detail, and a passion for crafting distinctive champagnes, Tellier has established itself as an exciting presence in the world of grower Champagne, appealing to enthusiasts seeking wines with personality and a strong sense of place.
