About Giacomo Borgogno
Since 1761, the most historical winery in Barolo. Giacomo Borgogno are particularly famous for their library of older vintages, immaculately stored in their cellars. Indeed, Borgogno must rate as one of the first to have bottled their Barolo, including 1861 which was served at the official banquet celebrating Italian unity. Barolo is a small town creating one of the best wines in the world. Here, the tradition of winemaking can be found in every moment of life. For centuries, the soil has shown its calling; it is evident in the clay-limestone marl soil, in the fortune exposition, in the altitude, and in the climate of the elements that make this area the ground for Piemonte crops. Borgogno, following a code of absolute respect for the environment, treats its grapes using the best methods; no chemical fertilizers are used, only sustainable treatments used. This disc results in a clean grape, free of residues, essential for the production of quality wines. The Borgogno field covers 20 hectares, of which 4 are forests and 16 are vineyards. About 60% is grown in Nebbiolo, the remaining land is divided between Dolcetto and Barbera. Cannubi, Connubi San Lorenzo, Fossati, Liste and San Pietro delle viole are some of the best Barolo vintages. The underground cellars continue to represent a rare historical memory of the Langa to this day, and the wines are made according to tradition: long spontaneous fermentation in concrete tanks without the use of selected yeasts, and long periods of aging, strictly in large Slavonian oak barrels.
