Podere Giodo winery
Podere Giodo is the personal wine project of celebrated Italian oenologist Carlo Ferrini, situated in the heart of Tuscany’s Montalcino region. Established in 2002, Giodo reflects Ferrini’s vision for crafting wines that express purity, elegance, and the unique character of Sangiovese. The estate covers approximately six hectares of meticulously tended vineyards, located between Sant’Angelo in Colle and Sant’Antimo, an area known for its ideal microclimate and soils suited to the cultivation of Sangiovese.
Carlo Ferrini, whose consulting work has influenced some of Italy’s most prestigious wineries, applies his decades of expertise to every aspect of Giodo’s production. He personally oversees vineyard management, grape selection, and winemaking, ensuring each bottle reflects the estate’s philosophy of minimal intervention and respect for the land. The vineyards are farmed organically, with a focus on sustainability and biodiversity, enhancing the health of the vines and the expression of terroir in the wines.
Giodo produces two main wines: Giodo Brunello di Montalcino and Giodo La Quinta, a Toscana IGT. The Brunello is crafted from carefully selected Sangiovese clones, chosen for their ability to deliver complexity and finesse. Fermentation takes place in small stainless-steel tanks, followed by aging in French oak casks and further refinement in bottle before release. The result is a wine that balances power with grace, offering aromas of red berries, floral notes, spice, and a signature minerality, framed by refined tannins and vibrant acidity.
La Quinta, Giodo’s Toscana IGT, is sourced from younger vines and showcases a more immediate, fruit-driven style while maintaining the elegance and structure that define the estate. Both wines are produced in limited quantities, reflecting Ferrini’s commitment to quality over quantity. The estate’s meticulous approach extends from the vineyard to the cellar, with attention to detail at every stage of production.
Podere Giodo has quickly gained international acclaim for its expressive and nuanced wines, which are considered benchmarks for modern Brunello. The estate’s philosophy centers on the belief that great wine is made in the vineyard, with minimal intervention in the cellar to allow the true character of Sangiovese and the Montalcino terroir to shine. This dedication is evident in the purity, balance, and longevity of Giodo’s wines, which continue to earn accolades from critics and wine lovers around the world.
In addition to the core wines, Giodo has also embarked on a project in Sicily’s Mount Etna region, producing Nerello Mascalese under the Giodo Sicilia label. This expansion reflects Ferrini’s passion for exploring Italy’s diverse terroirs and grape varieties, applying the same rigorous standards that have defined his work in Tuscany.
Podere Giodo stands as a testament to Carlo Ferrini’s lifelong pursuit of excellence, combining tradition, innovation, and a deep respect for nature. The estate’s wines are sought after by collectors and enthusiasts for their distinctive style, elegance, and faithful expression of their origins.
