Montepeloso winery

In 1998 Fabio Chiarelotto settled where it is perhaps most idyllic in the Maremma: The winery of Montepeloso, a visionary wine-grower who was already on his way to international fame, lies not far from the Tuscan coast above the famous Tua Rita estate in Suvereto. Chiarelotto experimented on the slopes and in the cellar with different mixtures and techniques in order to be able to reproduce the terroir masterfully. The results today are the noblest drops of the unique complexity and beguiling elegance, which do not orient themselves at all to the mainstream. The terroir itself is exceptional: the calcareous and stony clay soils in the hills around the town of Suvereto give the organically cultivated grapes with their high proportion of flint (Silex) their high complexity and minerality, as well as the proximity to the sea give the products of the still fairly young cult wine a surprising intensity of taste. Similar to Gianfranco Soldera, who brings the most expensive Brunello di Montalcino to the market in his exclusive company Case Basse, Chiarelotto is driven by an idiosyncratic personal philosophy. Since he discovered his love for wine, the newcomer, eccentric and tireless perfectionist, praised by many renowned critics in high tones, has dedicated himself to the world-famous Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot varieties. But also, regional classics like the Sangiovese dominating Northern Italy, as well as Montepulciano, Marselan, a new breed between Cabernet and Grenache Noir, Colorino and Alicante Bouschet, find his pleasure.
