Michele Satta winery

Michele Satta wine producer in Bolgheri runs the oldest winery that belongs to a winemaker. Satta founded its winery in Castagneto Carducci at a time when wine-growing in the Tuscan region was in its infancy and great successes were still to come. The path taken by the innovative winemaker was new in Bolgheri at the time. Not only focused on the international varieties Cabernet, Merlot and Syrah, but also on the. In 1991 the top vineyards Castagni, Poderini, La Torre, Vignanuova and Costa di Giulia were added, as well as another ten hectares. They look more like a lovingly maintained suburban garden than an agricultural area. After the expansion, the wines of the bottle battery, which is now wide with nine products, steadily improved in quality. All the grape varieties are vinified and matured separately in the cellar before being used later for wines such as the Bolgheri Rosso Piastraia, often award-winning and consisting equally of Cabernet, Merlot, Syrah and Sangiovese. The Kreszenzen pressed by Michele Satta - some of them unpolished and rich in tannins - are perceived by wine lovers as authentic and expressive. Therefore, it is often difficult to tell which plant is the flagship of the winegrower who stands steadfastly by his convictions and sometimes swims against the current. If, on the other hand, the prices are the sole yardstick, the Piastraia and the Bolgheri Rosso Superiore I Castagni are the top products of the house.
