Le Macchiole winery

Azienda Agr cola Le Macchiole is a winery dating from 1975, located in the city of Bolgheri, Tuscany, Italy. But it was finally founded in 1983, by the desire of Eugenio Campolmi and Cinzia. In 1987 the first production of Le Macchiole was bottled. In 1994 came Messorio (100% Merlot) and Scrio (100% Syrah), and followed in 2001, Paleo Rosso was transformed into 100% Cabernet Franc. One has to mention Le Macchiole, along with Guado al Tasso, Sassicaia, and Ornellaia. Scrio 2015, 100% Syrah, has just obtained the highest rating from Critic James Suckling who awarded it 100 Points. Le Macchiole has 24 hectares of vineyards, owned by the estate, organically cultivated. The vineyards: Vignone 1999, Puntone 1993, Casa Nuova 1998. The first to adopt high-density plantation and to focus on the Cabernet Franc variety suitable for the Bolgherese territory. Respect for life and the natural environment is fundamental: hence the decision in 2002 to manage the vines organically. The land on which the vineyard thrives can be divided into two macro zones of different conformation: one with the soil of medium texture with an abundant structure and a good presence of limestone, and the other with loamy clay with a natural pH. Through careful study of each plot, areas were identified to plant each variety. Le Macchiole Produces 5 wines; Bolgheri Rosso, 50% Merlot, 15% Cabernet Sauvignon, 15% Syrah and 20% Cabernet Franc; Paleo Rosso 100% Cabernet Franc; Paleo Blanco Chardonnay 80%, Sauvignon Blanc 20%; Messorio Toscana IGT 100% Merlot; Scrio 100% Syrah.
