La Fornace winery

La Fornace is a family-owned winery located in the heart of Montalcino, Tuscany, an area celebrated for its exceptional Sangiovese-based wines. The estate covers approximately nine hectares, with six dedicated to vineyards and the remainder to olive groves and woodland. The origins of the property trace back to the early 19th century, and it has been under the stewardship of the Giannetti family for several generations. Today, the estate is managed by Fabio Giannetti, who took over from his father and continues the family’s deep-rooted traditions while embracing modern techniques.

La Fornace’s vineyards are situated at an altitude of around 400 meters above sea level, benefitting from optimal sun exposure and the unique galestro and clay soils typical of the region. These conditions, combined with meticulous vineyard management, allow the estate to produce grapes of outstanding quality. The winery is particularly known for its Brunello di Montalcino, a wine that exemplifies the elegance, structure, and longevity associated with the appellation. In addition to Brunello, La Fornace produces Rosso di Montalcino and IGT Toscana wines, each reflecting the estate’s commitment to expressing the local terroir.

Winemaking at La Fornace blends tradition with innovation. Harvesting is carried out by hand to ensure only the best fruit is selected. Fermentation occurs in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks, preserving the purity of the Sangiovese grape. Ageing takes place in a combination of large Slavonian oak casks and smaller French oak barrels, a method that imparts complexity and balance to the wines without overwhelming their character. The estate maintains low yields and practices sustainable viticulture, believing that respect for the land is essential to producing authentic wines.
