Joseph Colin winery

Joseph Colin is a dynamic winemaker based in the heart of Burgundy, France, carrying on the legacy of one of the region’s most esteemed wine families. The son of Marc Colin and younger brother of Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey, Joseph grew up surrounded by vines in the village of Saint-Aubin, absorbing the nuances of viticulture and winemaking from an early age. After working alongside his father and siblings at Domaine Marc Colin for nearly two decades, Joseph established his own domaine in 2017, marking a significant new chapter in his career and Burgundy’s winemaking landscape.

Joseph Colin’s domaine covers approximately 6 hectares, primarily in the Côte de Beaune, with holdings in prestigious appellations such as Chassagne-Montrachet, Puligny-Montrachet, Saint-Aubin, and Santenay. His vineyards include prized parcels in Les Chenevottes, Les Caillerets, and En Remilly, among others, featuring both village and premier cru sites. Joseph’s approach in the vineyard is rooted in sustainable practices, emphasizing respect for the land, minimal intervention, and careful attention to each plot’s unique terroir. He favors organic treatments and manual labor, aiming to preserve the health and vitality of the vines while expressing the distinctive character of each vineyard.

In the cellar, Joseph Colin pursues a philosophy of precision and finesse. He employs gentle pressing, natural fermentations with indigenous yeasts, and minimal use of new oak—typically no more than 20%—to allow the purity and complexity of the fruit to shine. His whites are celebrated for their clarity, tension, and expressive minerality, reflecting the limestone-rich soils of Burgundy. The wines undergo extended lees aging, which imparts texture and depth without sacrificing freshness. Joseph’s reds, though produced in smaller quantities, are equally meticulous, displaying vibrant fruit, fine tannins, and a sense of place.

Joseph Colin’s wines have quickly garnered acclaim for their elegance, balance, and transparent expression of terroir. Each bottling offers a snapshot of its origin, from the racy, citrus-driven Puligny-Montrachet to the more opulent, honeyed notes of Chassagne-Montrachet. The Saint-Aubin cuvées, in particular, have become sought after for their value and quality, showcasing the potential of this often-overlooked appellation. Joseph’s commitment to low yields and careful selection ensures concentration and intensity, while his restrained winemaking style highlights the subtleties and nuances of each vineyard site.

Despite his relatively recent solo venture, Joseph Colin has established himself as one of Burgundy’s most exciting new voices. His dedication to authenticity, combined with technical skill and a deep respect for tradition, shines through in every bottle. As he continues to refine his craft and expand his understanding of each parcel, Joseph’s wines promise to offer even greater insight into the diverse and storied terroirs of the Côte de Beaune. Collectors, sommeliers, and enthusiasts alike are drawn to his precise, expressive wines, which capture both the heritage and the future of Burgundy winemaking.
