Francois Villard winery

Two winemaker friends have brought this vineyard to life. As well as being an adventure, in human terms, it was the surest way to preserve the existence of this wonderful terroir. Francois Villard was trained as a cook, but at the age of 20, developed a passion for wine. He met people who played a decisive role in his life, and who made him want to become a winemaker. Francois Villard planted his first vineyard in the spring of 1989. he made his first wine in Verlieu, but he decided to have his own building constructed in 1996 in Saint-Michel-sur-Rhone. At the same time, he began a new adventure, giving life to the Seyssuel vineyards with his fellow winemakers, Yves Cuilleron and Pierre Gaillard. Later on, Francois Villard decided to make his own wine on these hills, and that s how his wine Seul en sc ne -One man show- was born. The Vineyards Grape variety is 100% Syrah. The Terroir: Seyssuel (in the hamlet of Pelissonnes), decomposed quartzite schist soil; facing south; 15-year-old vines. Viticulture: Yield and density: 45 hl/ha (8000 vine stocks/ha); cordon de Royat pruning. In the Cellar, the Vinification is 85% of whole grapes and 2 weeks of fermentation in open vats. Maturing lasts up to 18 months in casks from which 50% are new casks.
