Fanti is a family-owned wine estate located in the heart of Tuscany, within the prestigious Montalcino region. The Fanti family has deep roots in this area, with their history on the estate dating back to the early 1800s. Over the centuries, the family has nurtured a tradition of agricultural excellence, which today is focused on producing high-quality wines that express the unique terroir of Montalcino.
The modern era of Fanti began in the 1970s when Filippo Fanti took over management of the estate, bringing renewed energy and vision. Under his leadership, Fanti expanded its vineyards and invested in modern winemaking facilities, while maintaining a strong respect for tradition and the environment. The estate covers approximately 300 hectares, of which about 50 are planted with vines, predominantly Sangiovese for Brunello di Montalcino, alongside other varieties such as Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon.
Fanti’s vineyards benefit from diverse soils and microclimates, thanks to their position between the Orcia and Ombrone rivers and the varied elevation of the estate. This diversity allows for careful selection of vineyard sites for each grape variety, resulting in wines with complexity and depth. Sustainable viticulture is a key focus, with practices that respect the land and promote biodiversity, including organic fertilization and limited use of chemicals.
The winery is equipped with state-of-the-art technology, allowing precise control over every stage of production. Fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks, and aging occurs in a combination of large Slavonian oak casks and French barriques, depending on the wine style. This careful balance between tradition and innovation ensures that Fanti wines retain their regional character while achieving elegance and finesse.
Fanti is best known for its Brunello di Montalcino, a wine that reflects the estate’s dedication to quality and authenticity. The Brunello spends several years aging before release, developing rich aromas of red fruit, spice, and earth, with a structure that allows for long-term aging. The estate also produces Rosso di Montalcino, a more approachable expression of Sangiovese, and a selection of Super Tuscan blends that showcase international grape varieties alongside local ones.
