Dominus Estate is a celebrated Napa Valley winery founded by Christian Moueix, a French vintner with deep Bordeaux roots. Located in Yountville, the estate occupies the historic Napanook Vineyard, one of Napa’s oldest and most storied sites, first planted in 1838. Moueix, whose family owns Château Pétrus in Pomerol, recognized the potential of Napanook’s gravelly, well-drained soils and unique microclimate for producing world-class Cabernet Sauvignon. He acquired full ownership in 1995, having first partnered with the vineyard in 1982.
The estate’s philosophy marries Old World tradition with New World innovation. Moueix emphasizes dry farming, minimal intervention, and meticulous vineyard management to express the vineyard’s terroir. The focus is on sustainable agriculture, with a commitment to preserving soil health and biodiversity. Grapes are harvested by hand and sorted with precision, ensuring only the best fruit is used. In the cellar, winemaking is restrained, with gentle extraction and aging in a mix of new and used French oak barrels to allow the character of the vineyard to shine through.
