Domaine Paul Blanck winery
The Blanck family has been established in Alsace since the late 16th century, and active in the wine business in Kientzheim since the early 19th century. Cousins Fr d ric and Philippe took over for their fathers, Bernard and Marcel, in 1984. They all work hard together to produce wines of quality with distinct Alsatian terroir. Philippe is passionate about human relations, and is the president of the wine tourism commission of the independent Vignerons de France, while Fr d ric is a man of few words, always presiding over and nurturing his wines in his cellar. They say, to know Philippe, listen to him talk about his country, his wines, and his desire to make people more aware. To know Fr d ric, drink his wines because his entire being and soul go in them and one can understand his person in his wines. Their vineyards are harvested by hand and free of fertilizer; methods are employed to encourage soil health and fauna. This gew rztraminer comes from what he says was the best vintage of his lifetime in terms of grape quality and yield. It is stainless steel fermented and aged to retain the varietal character, showing a good balance of floral and fruit notes - almost muscat-like with nice spiced-orange, lemon verbena, and thyme. It has wonderfully fresh acidity and a broad, round texture. Biodynamically grown.
