Domaine Leroy winery
Domaine Leroy has approximately 22.5 hectares of its own vineyard distributed, in ascending hierarchical order. To say that some of the 'village' properties we have never seen bottled, which does not necessarily mean that they have not been bottled... Some 21 different labels have been marketed per year. They have adopted biodynamic methods, being one of the biggest defenders of these, even taking them to extremes that some consider excessive, to the point of practically losing a harvest for not breaking any of the rules. Starting in 1988, they began to reconvert the vineyard, in order to recover the soil from all the barbarities of previous decades, chemical treatments, compactions, etc., and quickly the total production went to biodynamics. Lately the most visible change is that of the pruning of the vineyard. Although trellised, they are doing something similar to what is in the Hermitage or the C te-R tie. Against tradition and what is typical in Burgundy (the double cordon or Guyot pruning), they prune to two thumbs with two buds each, that is, leaving a total of four buds, when the normal is eight. The opinion in the area is that they are very rare: they look like a jungle. For example, the Richebourg vineyards are right next to those of the Domaine de la Roman e-Conti and according to a friend tells us, it is as if it were classical music on one side and heavy metal on the other. In d'Auvenay, the same principles apply as in Leroy, both in the vineyard and in the winery.
