Domaine Huet, founded in 1928 by Victor Huet and his son Gaston, is one of the most historic and influential wine estates in Vouvray, located in the Loire Valley of France. The estate spans approximately 30 hectares and is dedicated exclusively to Chenin Blanc, the iconic grape of the region. Over the decades, Domaine Huet has become synonymous with the production of exceptional Vouvray wines, celebrated for their purity, complexity, and remarkable aging potential.
The estate comprises three main vineyards: Le Haut-Lieu, Le Mont, and Clos du Bourg. Each vineyard possesses distinct soil types and microclimates, contributing unique characteristics to the wines. Le Haut-Lieu, the original vineyard, features deep, rich clay-limestone soils, yielding wines with generosity and roundness. Le Mont, acquired in 1957, is known for its stony, mineral-rich soils, producing wines of finesse and tension. Clos du Bourg, purchased in 1953, is a walled vineyard with shallow, chalky soils, resulting in wines of great structure and longevity.
Domaine Huet has been a pioneer in biodynamic viticulture, adopting these practices in the late 1980s under the guidance of Noël Pinguet, Gaston Huet’s son-in-law and longtime winemaker. The estate’s commitment to organic and biodynamic farming ensures healthy vines and vibrant, expressive fruit. Hand-harvesting, meticulous sorting, and gentle pressing are integral to the winemaking process, allowing the character of each vineyard and vintage to shine through without excessive intervention.
The range of wines produced at Domaine Huet includes Sec (dry), Demi-Sec (off-dry), Moelleux (sweet), and, in exceptional years, Première Trie (from selected, botrytized grapes). These wines are celebrated for their crystalline precision, layered aromatics, and the ability to evolve beautifully over decades. The estate’s sparkling Vouvray, made using the traditional method, further demonstrates the versatility of Chenin Blanc from these esteemed terroirs.
