Chateau Gravas winery
Château Gravas is a family-owned wine estate situated in Barsac, within the Sauternes appellation of Bordeaux, France. The estate, whose name means “gravelly land,” has been managed by the same family for six generations, currently under Michel and Florence Bernard. The vineyard covers 8 hectares and benefits from the unique terroir of gravelly soils over a clay-limestone subsoil. The estate grows classic Sauternes grape varieties: Sémillon, Sauvignon Blanc, and Muscadelle, with Sémillon dominating the plantings.
Harvest at Château Gravas is carried out by hand, in several selective passes through the vineyard to ensure grapes are picked at optimal ripeness and concentration. The winemaking process emphasizes careful pressing, slow fermentation, and aging in French oak barrels for 12-18 months. This meticulous approach results in wines characterized by complexity, balance, and elegance, with aromas of honey, apricot, citrus, and white flowers, alongside a fresh, lingering finish.
Château Gravas produces several wines, including their main Sauternes cuvée and a dry white wine, “Le Blanc de Gravas.” Their Sauternes is known for its finesse, aromatic richness, and ability to age gracefully, making it suitable for both immediate enjoyment and cellaring.
