About Domaine Sylvain Morey
Domaine Sylvain Morey is a family-owned wine estate located in the heart of Chassagne-Montrachet, Burgundy. Founded in 2014 by Sylvain Morey, the domaine draws on a rich heritage that stretches back several generations. Sylvain grew up in Chassagne-Montrachet, immersed in the traditions of viticulture and winemaking practiced by his family, the Moreys, who have been established in the region since the 17th century. After spending two decades in the Luberon region of southern France, where he created his own domaine, La Bastide du Claux, Sylvain returned to Burgundy to take on a share of the family vineyards following the retirement of his father, Jean-Marc Morey.
The domaine covers approximately eight hectares of prime vineyard holdings, many of which are located in prestigious appellations such as Chassagne-Montrachet, Saint-Aubin, Santenay, and Puligny-Montrachet. The estate is particularly known for its holdings in several premier cru sites, including Chassagne-Montrachet Les Caillerets and Saint-Aubin Les Charmois. The vineyards are farmed with a strong commitment to sustainable and organic practices, reflecting Sylvain’s philosophy of working in harmony with nature to express the unique character of each terroir.
Sylvain Morey’s approach in the cellar is guided by a respect for tradition, balanced with a willingness to adapt and innovate. Vinification is low intervention, with a focus on preserving the purity and expression of the fruit. Whites are pressed gently and fermented with indigenous yeasts, then aged in French oak barrels with a judicious use of new wood to avoid overpowering the wines’ natural flavors. Reds are typically destemmed and undergo gentle extraction to emphasize elegance and finesse. The result is a portfolio of wines that are precise, mineral-driven, and deeply reflective of their origins.
The white wines of Domaine Sylvain Morey are celebrated for their tension, complexity, and vibrant minerality. Chassagne-Montrachet Les Caillerets, in particular, stands out for its depth and potential for aging, offering notes of citrus, white flowers, and wet stone. The reds, including Santenay and Chassagne-Montrachet, are marked by their supple tannins, bright red fruit, and subtle earthy undertones. Across the range, there is a consistent emphasis on balance, freshness, and a transparent expression of site.
Sylvain’s experience in both Burgundy and the Luberon has shaped his unique perspective as a winemaker. He brings an open-minded, thoughtful approach to every aspect of production, from vineyard management to blending and bottling. The domaine remains a small, hands-on operation, with Sylvain deeply involved in all stages of the process. This artisanal attention to detail ensures that each wine is crafted with care and integrity.
Domaine Sylvain Morey has quickly established itself as a source of high-quality, terroir-driven Burgundy wines. With deep roots in Chassagne-Montrachet and a clear vision for the future, Sylvain continues to build on his family’s legacy, producing wines that capture the essence of some of Burgundy’s most esteemed vineyards.
