About Paolo Scavino
Paolo Scavino is a historic family-run winery located in Castiglione Falletto, at the heart of the Barolo region in Piedmont, Italy. Established in 1921 by Lorenzo Scavino and his son Paolo, the estate has been dedicated to producing high-quality wines for over a century. Today, it is managed by Enrico Scavino, the third generation, who has been at the helm since the 1950s. Enrico’s passion, vision, and meticulous approach have elevated the winery to international acclaim, while his daughters, Enrica and Elisa, are now actively involved, ensuring that the family legacy continues.
Paolo Scavino is best known for its Barolo wines, sourced from some of the most prestigious crus in the region. The estate cultivates 30 hectares of vineyards across 20 different plots, including celebrated sites such as Cannubi, Bric del Fiasc, Monvigliero, and Ravera. The diversity of these vineyards allows the winery to showcase the unique character of each terroir. The focus is primarily on Nebbiolo, the grape behind Barolo, but the estate also produces excellent examples of Dolcetto, Barbera, and Langhe blends.
The Scavino philosophy centers on respect for tradition, innovation, and an unwavering commitment to quality. In the vineyard, sustainable practices are prioritized, with careful attention to soil health and vine balance. Yields are kept low to ensure concentration and complexity in the grapes. The harvest is conducted by hand, with rigorous selection to ensure only the best fruit is used. In the cellar, Enrico Scavino has been a pioneer, introducing temperature-controlled fermentation, careful use of French oak, and a blend of modern and traditional winemaking techniques. The wines are typically aged in a combination of large casks and small barrels, allowing for both the preservation of varietal purity and the development of complexity.
Paolo Scavino’s Barolo wines are celebrated for their elegance, structure, and aromatic intensity. Each cru bottling expresses the nuances of its origin, from the power and depth of Bric del Fiasc to the finesse of Cannubi. The estate’s Barolo Classico, a blend of multiple vineyards, offers a harmonious introduction to the house style. Beyond Barolo, the Dolcetto d’Alba, Barbera d’Alba, and Langhe Nebbiolo demonstrate the estate’s versatility and commitment to excellence across the range.
Throughout its history, Paolo Scavino has remained family-owned and deeply rooted in the traditions of the Langhe. The winery’s dedication to expressing the soul of its terroirs, coupled with continuous innovation, has made it a benchmark for Piedmontese wine. With a legacy built on hard work, passion, and a relentless pursuit of quality, Paolo Scavino continues to shape the story of Barolo, inspiring wine lovers and collectors around the world.
