About Felsina Berardenga

The Felsina estate is widely regarded as one of the finest producers of Chianti Classico with this particular bottling lauded by wine critics all over the globe as a true Tuscan masterpiece. The Rancia vineyard is located in Castelnuovo Berardenga in the southeastern corner of the Chianti Classico appellation and is planted on southwesterly-facing slopes of 400 to 420 metres of altitude. The Sangiovese grapes are attentively harvested by hand each year and fermented in stainless steel tanks. The wine is then matured in oak barrels for up to 20 months before the composition of the blend is decided. The Rancia is then aged in the bottle for a further 6 to 8 months before it is released. Chianti Classico is the cornerstone of the estate s production. The vineyards are located in Castelnuovo Berardenga, in the south-eastern part of the Chianti Classico appellation, to the southeast of Siena. Almost exclusively with a southwestern exposure, they sprawl across ventilated slopes at an altitude ranging from 320-420 meters above sea level. Geologically, the terrains are mixed: in the higher parts the soil is predominantly rock quartz and calcareous Albanese mixed with alluvial pebbles; stratiform sandstone and loam characterize the vineyards on the edge of the Colli Senesi in the direction of the Crete Senesi. The first vintage was produced in 1967. Ruby red with deep intensity and hue. Fruity, fine, and elegant aromas dominated by wild berries, along with an array of spicy notes. Fruity on the palate with good tannins and a lingering finish.
