About Poggio Antico
The Poggio Antico winery and the estate is one of Brunello di Montalcino s most highly regarded and historic wineries. The Named comes from the famous vineyard site where it is located (the Poggio Antico or ancient hilltop vineyard ), the winery sits in the historic south-western subzone of the appellation where a mix of volcanic and limestone subsoils combined with maritime influence from the nearby Mediterranean Sea makes for some of Montalcino s most famous and highly rated wines. Cultivation and harvesting are almost entirely done by hand due to tradition-loving mindsets. Organic farming practices are employed exclusively in the estate s vineyards and a state-of-the-art winery allows the estate s winemaker to craft terroir-driven wines with a slightly modern flair, something that gives them broad appeal among Brunello di Montalcino and Sangiovese collectors and connoisseurs. The winery s most recent Brunello di Montalcino release was awarded 95 points by Monica Larner, 94 points by Bruce Sanderson, and 94 points by Antonio Galloni. Historically, the wines nearly always land in best of lists by leading wine writers each year. The grounds of the estate also include one of the appellation s best tasting rooms and one of the region s top restaurants, a highly popular fine-dining destination.
