About David Leclapart

Muchada-Léclapart is a boutique wine producer based in the historic region of Sanlúcar de Barrameda, Andalusia, Spain. Founded by Alejandro Muchada, an architect and winegrower from Cádiz, and David Léclapart, a renowned Champagne producer from France, the project is rooted in a shared philosophy of biodynamic agriculture and a deep respect for terroir. Their collaboration merges the unique heritage of Andalusian soils with the refined winemaking techniques of Champagne, aiming to craft pure, expressive white wines that capture the essence of their origin.

The vineyards are situated in the prestigious “Pago Miraflores” and “Pago Abulagar,” recognized for their exceptional albariza soils—white, chalky earth known for imparting freshness and minerality to the wines. The Atlantic influence, combined with the region’s microclimate and centuries-old viticultural traditions, provides ideal conditions for growing Palomino Fino and Moscatel grape varieties. Muchada-Léclapart owns and manages three key vineyard plots: La Platera, La Callejuela, and Camino del Puerto, each with vines aged between 30 and 80 years. These plots are cultivated using biodynamic practices, emphasizing biodiversity, soil health, and minimal intervention to encourage the natural expression of each site.

The winemaking process at Muchada-Léclapart is guided by minimalism and purity. Grapes are harvested by hand, and fermentation occurs spontaneously with native yeasts. The use of oak is restrained or absent, favoring stainless steel and old casks to preserve the varietal character and freshness of the wines. The wines are not fortified, diverging from the traditional Sherry production methods of the region, and instead, focus on unfortified, terroir-driven expressions. Sulphur use is kept to an absolute minimum, and the wines are neither clarified nor filtered, resulting in authentic, living wines that evolve in the bottle.

The portfolio includes several cuvées, each reflecting the distinct personality of their respective vineyards. “Univers” is crafted from Palomino Fino grown on albariza soils, offering saline minerality and vibrant acidity. “Luminoso” is another Palomino-based wine, sourced from older vines, with greater complexity and depth. “Elixir” is a rare Moscatel from a single old vineyard, showcasing aromatic intensity and finesse. Each wine is produced in limited quantities, emphasizing quality and individuality over volume.

Muchada-Léclapart is committed to sustainability and the preservation of local heritage. The biodynamic approach extends beyond the vineyard, fostering a holistic ecosystem that benefits the land, the vines, and the community. The project also seeks to revive the reputation of Sanlúcar’s still wines, which historically held great prestige before the dominance of fortified Sherry. By combining ancestral Andalusian knowledge with contemporary biodynamic methods, Muchada-Léclapart aims to redefine the region’s wines on the world stage.

The winery welcomes visitors by appointment, offering guided tours of the vineyards and tastings that provide insight into their unique philosophy and meticulous craftsmanship. Muchada-Léclapart’s wines are distributed internationally and have garnered acclaim for their elegance, purity, and authentic reflection of the Andalusian terroir.
