About Dr. Loosen
One of the most prestigious wineries in the Moselle region - and in all of Germany - Dr. Loosen has been in the same family for the past two centuries. It has 15 hectares of vineyards, in privileged payments located on steep hills, between the villages of Erden, rzig and Huelen (Middle Moselle). Since 1988, the property has been managed by Ernst Loosen, who was awarded 'Man of the Year' in 2005 by the prestigious Decanter magazine, thanks to his contribution to the international image of Riesling. Ernst Loosen modernized the winemaking methods of the winery, which today has the latest technology - temperature control systems, thermoregulated tanks, etc. - to extract the purest character of the raw material. Following a family legacy of more than 200 years, Ernst Loosen has managed to flee from the high yields of young plantations, to consolidate a project with vineyards of more than 70 years. Plots classified in some cases as Grand Cru and 1 Cru thanks to slate soils, temperature softened by its proximity to the river and its south orientation. Due to this privileged environment and the different elaborations, including botrytized and late harvests, a wide range of wines is created, both dry and sweet. A very interesting project in the Moselle area to learn about the potential of the Riesling grape. The Dr. Loosen Dr. L. Riesling grapes are harvested by hand, fermented in stainless steel tanks with temperature control and the fermentation is stopped with cold to leave the wine with a little residual sugar.
