About Domaine de la Janasse

In 1967, Aim Sabon returned from his military service and took over the vines from his father, who used to bring his grapes to the nearest wine cooperative. In 1973, Aim built his own winery. Domaine de la Janasse was born and is named after the family farm that was in Courth zon, in the town of 'La Janasse'. Aim knew she had fabulous soil and wanted to expand the farm by acquiring new parcels. From its 15 hectares, in the beginning, La Janasse has grown to more than 90 hectares. In 1991, Christophe Sabon, A me's eldest son, returned to La Janasse, where he received the keys to the cellar. From then on, different wedges and new conquered markets developed. In 2001, Isabelle Sabon, Aim 's daughter, graduated as a winemaker from the University of Toulouse and joined the team. With H l ne, Aim 's wife, the family met again at La Janasse. Due to its fragmented structure, more than sixty parcels, the La Janasse area covers a mosaic of terroirs. Extensive research on the soil, exposure and microclimates helped to ideally organize the vineyard. The white varieties and the Syrah were preferably sown in sandy limestone, exposed to the east of the appellation to preserve freshness, acidity and fineness. The Mourvedre were planted in clay-limestone soils covered with river rocks to reach perfect maturity.
