About Castel Sallegg
Tradition and modernity are how one can best describe Castel Salleg. An old castle revitalized as a winery was the vision of Georg Kuenburg's intuition in the 1990s. Today, the winery works with rigor and with the most recent technologies, however, bound to the wine traditions of Caldaro. Matthias Hauser is the one responsible for the production on a terrain of over 30 hectares of vineyards from where he produces 120,000 bottles of outstanding quality wines. The vineyards are located in suggestive places: Preyhof, at over 550 meters above sea level, is located in the town of Caldaro on limestone soils, in the Leisenhof, 500 meters above sea level, the vineyards are located on clayey and sandy soils, while on the shore of Lake Caldaro, in the Seehof, between 230 and 280 meters above sea level, there are vineyards with Bordeaux varieties. The grape variety is abundant which assists Castel Salleg to cultivate the classic varieties of the Pinot Grigio, Pinot Bianco, Pinot Nero, Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Gew rztraminer, and Moscato Rosa. On the strength of this particular conformation of the soil (sandy-calcareous with porphyritic gravel and sandstone) and due to the considerable temperature range between day and night, comes the Alto Adige Pinot Bianco 2015. It has aromas of fresh hazelnuts, ripe apples, and notes of lemon, flowers elderberry, and pineapple. On the palate, it is full, clean and fresh, with penetrating acidity and good structure.
