About Paul Jaboulet Aine
The Jaboulet winery was originally founded and started by Antoine Jaboulet in 1834. This was then passed on to his twin sons, Henri and Paul. But eventually, the winery was named after the elder (Aine) brother which birthed Paul Jaboulet Aine. In 2006, Paul Jaboulet Aine was sold to Jean-Jacques Frey who also owned Chateau La Lagune in Bordeaux. His daughter, Caroline Frey, is now in charge of winemaking. This proved to be a good move as the La Chapelle is now entering a new age of domination. The most famous wine of Paul Jaboulet Aine is their Hermitage La Chapelle. La Chapelle is not an actual vineyard site in Hermitage but rather a trademarked name. It is inspired by the St. Christophe chapel on the hill where the hermit soldier is said to have lived in isolation. This is also where Hermitage gets its name from. La Chapelle is a 100% Syrah wine made from a blend of the different vineyards that surround the St. Christophe chapel: Bessards, Le Meal, Greffieux, and Rocoules. The wine is 100% destemmed and fermented by each parcel. They have recently limited their yields and went down from 7,000 cases of wine a year to now only producing 2,000 cases a vintage. To wine connoisseurs in the world, one of the best wines ever made is the 1961 Paul Jaboulet Aine Hermitage La Chapelle. Robert Parker has given this wine 100 points and it is on every wine collector s wish list.
