About Clos de Tart
The Clos de Tart Grand Cru is a wine that, thanks to the nature of the soil, can combine the typical power of Chambertin with the finesse of Musigny. The 7.53-hectare estate, grouped in a single plot enclosed by a wall which contains the largest Grand Cru Monopole in the whole of Burgundy. This rectangular parcel with a width of 300 meter and a length of 250 meters is surrounded by a wall of 1.2 kilometres long and has a uniform exposure to the South-East. The exposure is therefore uniform but the geological composition is the opposite: The Clos is divided into six different micro zones, with subsoils composed of different limestones. Unlike most of the vineyards in Burgundy, in Clos de Tart the rows are oriented from north to south to combat the phenomenon of erosion and to ensure equal exposure to the sun for both sides of the bunches. The average year of vines are 60 years but inconceivably some can rea up to 100 years. When necessary, the plants are replaced by new strains, obtained from mass selection and reared in the nursery of the Domaine. A part of the harvest, the one coming from vines less than 25 years old, is downgraded to produce a Morey-Saint-Denis 1er cru called La Forge . The work in the vineyard, the vinification and the aging are strictly identical to the wine classified as Grand Cru. We therefore find the same style of Clos de Tart but with a less rich structure that makes it easier to drink from a young age.
