About Chateau Hosanna
Château Hosanna is a distinguished estate in Pomerol, Bordeaux, owned and managed by Établissements Jean-Pierre Moueix. Situated in the heart of the appellation, the property covers 4.5 hectares and is ideally located on the famed Pomerol plateau, bordered by esteemed neighbors such as Château Lafleur, Château Petrus, and Château Vieux Château Certan. The vineyard benefits from a unique terroir composed of deep gravel and clay soils, which contribute to the complexity and elegance of its wines.
The estate’s vineyard is planted predominantly to Merlot (about 70%) with a significant proportion of Cabernet Franc (30%). The vines have an average age of 40 years, ensuring low yields and concentrated fruit. Meticulous attention is paid to every stage of viticulture, with sustainable practices employed to preserve the health and balance of the vines. The grapes are harvested by hand at optimal ripeness, ensuring only the finest fruit is selected for vinification.
At Château Hosanna, the winemaking process combines traditional Bordeaux techniques with modern precision. Fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled concrete vats, allowing for gentle extraction and preservation of the fruit’s purity. The wine is then aged in French oak barrels, with around 50% new oak used each vintage, for approximately 16 to 18 months. This careful élevage imparts subtle complexity and structure while respecting the wine’s natural character.
The resulting wines of Château Hosanna are celebrated for their depth, finesse, and aromatic richness. They typically display a harmonious balance of ripe black fruit, floral notes, and hints of spice, supported by silky tannins and a long, refined finish. The presence of Cabernet Franc adds freshness and complexity, enhancing the wine’s aging potential. Each vintage expresses the unique qualities of the terroir and the meticulous care taken in both vineyard and cellar.
Château Hosanna’s history is intertwined with the legacy of the Moueix family, who acquired the property in 1999. The estate was previously known as Château Certan-Giraud, and since its acquisition, significant investments have been made to elevate the quality of the wine and restore the vineyard to its full potential. Under the stewardship of Christian and Edouard Moueix, the estate has gained recognition for producing some of Pomerol’s most refined and expressive wines.
Today, Château Hosanna stands as a testament to the Moueix family’s dedication to excellence and respect for tradition. The estate’s limited production and exceptional quality have made its wines highly sought after by collectors and enthusiasts worldwide. With each vintage, Château Hosanna continues to embody the elegance, complexity, and timeless appeal that define the finest wines of Pomerol.
