About Domaine Rene Renou

Well-known Bonnezeaux producer Ren Renou was also President of the Institut. Seventh in a line of Loire winegrowers, in 1995 he decided to reduce his property to 8 hectares so that alongside his committee responsibilities, he could concentrate purely on producing premium quality, sweet white wines. Bonnezeaux is a highly respected sweet white wine appellation of the Anjou district in the western Loire Valley of France. Created in 1951, the title covers only a small part of the Thouarce commune, about 15 kilometers, around 10 miles south of the Loire river as it passes Angers. Bonnezeaux wines rank amongst the most respected sweet wines of the Loire and even all of France. They are made exclusively from Chenin Blanc which is known here as Pineau de la Loire. The appellation translates as 'good waters'. He was a meticulous winegrower, tending his shale and flint plots, harvesting by hand and screening the grapes successively. Ren Renou died in June 2006 and his son now runs the domain. Due to his respect for his father, Rene s son kept everything traditional, following his father's footsteps. Everything they produce comprises of commitment, dedication, passion and love and this is why it upholds a title as one of the best winegrowers in the region.
