About Col Solare
Col Solare is a premier winery located on Red Mountain in Washington State, a region recognized for producing exceptional Cabernet Sauvignon. The winery was founded in 1995 as a collaboration between two iconic wine families: Marchesi Antinori of Tuscany and Chateau Ste. Michelle of Washington. Their shared vision was to create a world-class Cabernet Sauvignon that would showcase the unique terroir of Red Mountain and bring together old world winemaking traditions with new world innovation.
The estate vineyard, planted in 2007, spans 40 acres and is meticulously managed to yield grapes of outstanding quality. The vineyard’s south-facing slopes, warm climate, and gravelly, well-drained soils provide optimal conditions for ripening Cabernet Sauvignon and other Bordeaux varieties. The winemaking team, led by winemaker Darel Allwine, employs a combination of traditional and modern techniques, including hand-harvesting, small-lot fermentations, and careful oak aging, to craft wines that are structured, elegant, and age-worthy.
Col Solare’s flagship wine is its Cabernet Sauvignon-based blend, which integrates select lots from its estate vineyard as well as fruit sourced from other top Red Mountain sites. This wine consistently receives critical acclaim for its depth, complexity, and balance, offering notes of dark fruit, cocoa, espresso, and spice, supported by firm tannins and vibrant acidity. In addition to the flagship wine, Col Solare produces the Col Solare Bottega, a limited production label that highlights the artistry and innovation of the winemaking team, and Shining Hill, a more approachable blend designed for early enjoyment.
The winery’s striking, contemporary facility was designed to harmonize with the surrounding landscape, offering panoramic views of the Red Mountain AVA. Col Solare welcomes visitors for tastings, tours, and exclusive experiences, including private tastings and vineyard walks. The tasting room provides an opportunity to explore current releases, library wines, and special bottlings, often paired with curated bites that complement the wines’ flavors.
Col Solare is committed to sustainability in both vineyard and winery operations. Vineyard practices focus on soil health, water conservation, and biodiversity, while the winery incorporates energy-efficient technologies and responsible resource management. This dedication ensures that the estate continues to produce exceptional wines while preserving the land for future generations.
Education and hospitality are core to Col Solare’s mission. The winery hosts a range of events throughout the year, from winemaker dinners and blending seminars to seasonal celebrations. Guests can immerse themselves in the story of Col Solare, learn about Red Mountain’s unique terroir, and gain insights into the art and science of winemaking.
Col Solare’s wines are available for purchase at the winery, through its wine club, and via select retailers and restaurants. The wine club offers members exclusive access to limited releases, special events, and personalized service. Through its dedication to quality, innovation, and hospitality, Col Solare continues to elevate the reputation of Washington State wines on the world stage.
