About Chateau Saint Amand
Domaine Saint Amant is located in the heart of the Dentelles de Montmirail, a small mountain range that has some of the highest elevations in the southern Rh ne. In fact, Saint Amant is the domaine with the highest elevation in the Rh ne Valley. Owned by the Jaques Wallut family, the estate is composed of twenty different plots of land covering 32 acres, scattered on the southern and eastern flank of Mount Saint Amant, planted to a large number of Rh ne varietals. The incredible estate of Camille Wallut, Saint Amant, is the highest in the southern Rhone. Here, the windswept vines of Grenache, Syrah and Viognier are at 1800 feet, rooted in mineral shale and limestone soil. The combination of organic farming, a super-long growing season, the mineral soil and that dizzying elevation, allows for hedonistically fruity wine but light on its feet, the real test of world-class full-bodied red wine. Saint Amant is an amazing find. Proprietress, Camille Wallut, enjoys the benefits of the high elevation - organic farming is easier than down in the valley as the vines are constantly battered by the wind, taking with it tons of bugs and the possibility of mildew. Their wines are always aromatic firework shows, the 2015 CDR Grangeneuve, is a showstopper and the perfect accompaniment to a roasted leg of lamb.
