About Nikka
A brand that was born in the 30s and whose founder is Masataka Taketsuru. A Japanese man who in 1918 decided to travel half the world to reach Scottish lands and learn the art of distillation. His stay in this place was most picturesque and he was captivated by the whiskey of the area and its main characteristics. This led him to return to his homeland, Japan, to build the first Japanese whiskey distillery in Asia about 6 years after his trip. Thus, he began to make his own Nikka Whiskey and his two subsequent distilleries in the Yoichi and Miyagikyo. Typically, Nikka blended whiskey is produced from single malt whiskey made from barley malt in stills, and grain whiskey made from distilling corn and other grains in a proprietary alembic. However, the main feature of the production process for whiskeys made from 100% malt such as Nikka All Malt is the best quality barley malt used in place of the corn in Coffey's alembic, resulting in a whiskey made entirely of malt. All-malt whiskeys are made from barley alone mixed with malt matured for long periods of time, giving it a deep aroma and smooth flavor. Taketsuru, a connoisseur of the technique, was very meticulous with the choice of each natural site.
