Fertuna is an esteemed wine estate located in the heart of the Maremma region in southern Tuscany, Italy. Established in 1997, the winery is situated within the DOC Maremma Toscana, an area celebrated for its rich winemaking traditions and unique terroir. Fertuna’s vineyards span approximately 145 hectares, with 50 hectares dedicated to vines and the remainder preserved as woodland and natural habitat, reflecting the estate’s commitment to environmental stewardship and biodiversity.

The name “Fertuna” is derived from the Latin “Fertuna,” meaning “fertility” and “fortune,” which aptly describes the lush, bountiful land on which the estate thrives. The property’s sandy-clay soils, combined with the Mediterranean climate and cooling sea breezes, create ideal conditions for cultivating both international and indigenous grape varieties. The estate’s primary focus is on Sangiovese, the flagship grape of Tuscany, but they also produce outstanding wines from Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, and Vermentino, among others. Fertuna’s approach blends traditional Tuscan viticulture with modern winemaking techniques, resulting in wines that are both expressive of their origin and accessible to contemporary palates.

Fertuna’s portfolio features a range of wines that highlight the diversity and potential of the Maremma region. Their flagship wine, Lodai, is a pure Merlot that showcases the varietal’s elegance and depth when grown in the estate’s unique soils. Droppello is an innovative wine made from Sangiovese vinified as a white, demonstrating Fertuna’s willingness to experiment and push boundaries. The Pactio, a blend of Sangiovese, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Merlot, pays homage to the classic “Super Tuscan” style, offering complexity, structure, and aging potential. In addition to reds, Fertuna produces crisp, aromatic whites such as Vermentino, which capture the freshness and minerality imparted by the nearby Tyrrhenian Sea.
